"Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it." Mark Twain

» Word of the...

Kind - having or showing a tender and considerate and helpful nature; used especially of persons and their behavior; agreeable, conducive to comfort; tolerant and forgiving under provocation.

In our hectic daily lives, kindness is an easy quality to let slide.  To overlook it seems trivial in our rush to accomplish what we set ourselves to do each day.  On the freeway onramp, in the grocery store, in the cafeteria at school.  We are presented with limitless opportunities to be kind, and often it is the quality we most often forget.  We all have the ability to recognize this weakness, overcome it, to simply be kind.  I myself have found that even when I think I'm doing something good, to be on a quest for what we think in our minds is "a better way", that it is easy to overlook the hard work of someone else.  To trample on their ideas puts and put aside the ability to be kind to their thoughts, efforts, and ideals.  So, work at it we must on a daily basis, to strive to be kind.  For in the end, that is what will truly define us.  I believe we all have that strength in ourselves.

So, how can YOU help ME?  Easy, if you find a really cool website that will help our Troop, our Parents, or our Scouts to be better equipped, better trained, and better motivated Scouts, send me a link to the site you like.  It can be anything from resources for Eagle Required Merit Badges, to really great equipment websites.  Or, maybe you have a good link for cool campfire stories, or skits.  Send 'em on over to me and I'll see about getting them on the website.  Thanks, and I'll see you on the campouts, or meeting, or, most likely hauling Christmas Trees down the street during our annual Christmas Tree Pickup!

Celebrating 100 Years

Interested in Scouting?
Why join scouting?
Scouting reinforces the skills and values we want our sons to learn while having fun. Many great American leaders, innovators, and artists started learning their leadership skills in Scouting.  Learning outdoor skills in a safe and clean environment is the foundation for all Scouting activities.  Click the "Joining" tab above and click on "core values" for our philosophy.

How do I join?
Boy Scouting is open to any boy between the ages of 11 and 18. For more information please feel free to drop us an email or visit one of our weekly meetings.  We look forward to meeting you and your son!

Scouting is for parents, too!
Active, committed Leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Troop. You don't need to have any special abilities to make a huge difference in a young man's life. Volunteer to help at one of our many events; you'll be glad you did!

Troop 90 & The Chartered Organization

A Charter is defined as follows:

Charter:
  1. a document issued by some authority, creating a public or private institution, and defining its purposes and privileges
  2. a similar document conferring rights and privileges on a person, corporation etc
  3. a contract for the commercial leasing of a vessel, or space on a vessel
  4. the temporary hiring or leasing of a vehicle
  5. a deed

For our purposes in Troop 90, the Chartered Organization is thus:

Based upon the recommendation of the local council, the national organization grants charters to local organizations to use the Scouting program. The chartered organization uses Scouting
  • Under its own leadership.
  • To serve families and youth for which the organization is concerned (either within the organization, outside the organization, or both).
  • To help the group or organization accomplish its objectives.
By receiving a charter from the Boy Scouts of America, the chartered organization agrees to
  • Conduct Scouting in accordance with its own policies and guidelines as well as those of the BSA.
  • Include Scouting as part of its overall program for youth and families.
  • Appoint a chartered organization representative who is a member of the organization and will represent it to the Scouting district and council, serving as a voting member of each.
  • Select a unit committee of parents and members of the organization who will screen and select unit leaders who meet the organization's leadership standards as well as the BSA's standards.
  • Provide adequate and secure facilities for Scouting units to meet on a regular schedule with time and place reserved.
  • Encourage the units to participate in outdoor experiences.

Troop 90 is Chartered by the Lions Club of Brentwood.

In addition to supporting Troop 90, the Lions also charter Cub Scout Pack 90.  The club was established in 1929 and is the oldest service organization in Brentwood.  The annual CornFest is an outgrowth of long running “Carnique” that the Lions ran in the city for many years.  For additional information on the Lions Club of Brentwood follow the link on the links page.
